Watercraft Renewal

New Registration

If you're registering your watercraft for the first time, we will need the following information:

  • Length
  • Serial and hull identification number
  • Type of propulsion
  • Year, make and model

Transfer Ownership

To transfer a watercraft into your name, please bring the registration card along with proof of purchase (bill of sale) from the previous owner. If the watercraft is titled, we will need the title which should be signed by the seller.

Registration Renewal

Watercraft registration is valid for 3 years and expires on December 31. The Department of Natural Resources typically mails renewal notices a couple of weeks prior to expiration. Please bring this card to the License Center. If you do not receive the notification, the registration number will be sufficient as long as the watercraft is in your name.

Off-Highway Vehicles

New Registration

If you're registering your off-highway vehicle for the first time, we will need the following information:

  • Dry weight
  • Width
  • Engine size
  • Serial number
  • Year, make, and model

Transfer Ownership

Off-highway vehicles are not titled. If previously registered in Minnesota, bring in the registration card along with proof of purchase (bill of sale) from the previous owner.
